Seattle information??

Hi-

If anyone has any tips on the Seattle area, please post them here. We plan to check out Walla Walla and Seattle but don't have any lodging plans yet, so if anyone knows of any reasonable options out there, let us know. Thanks!!

Hi, Tim and Lisa. I'm lovin' the blog! I've asked my friends Denise (lives in Spokane and drives to Seattle a lot) and Judy (used to live in Walla Walla) to post cool info for you. The Pacific NW is my favorite part of the US - enjoy!

howdy, I lunched with your blog today. Walla walla, Washington... the town so nice they named it twice. Eat a walla walla sweet onion while you're there. We used to travel to walla walla twice a year to play sports at Whitman or Whitworth, whichever is in that town I always got them confused. You're in my dad's neck of the woods. He grew up in Elgin, OR just south of there by LaGrande, OR. Jet boat tours up the Snake River are fun if you're in the area. NOrthern Idaho is beautiful too if you don't mind the skinheads. We actually didn't spot any. We hiked in the Pon d' Oreille ski area (spelling?) In Glacier, we hiked to a great lake at the bottom of some really high, shear cliffs. It was awesome. I think it was called Iceberg lake?? It was a good hike and the water was COLD, but it felt good to soak the feet in it after we got up there. Great wildlife viewing on the hike too. Big horn sheep I remember. I'll look in my MT book tonight and hit you back tomorrow with some other ideas. I can't remember them all. I wonder if Gunner the dog is still at Timber wolf. He was our pal for the week. In Seattle, hit a McMenamins pub "seven arms" is one. They started in my home town and now there are like 40 of them. They restore historic buildings and turn them in to pubs, b & bs, cinema and draft houses, vineyards etc. Best french fries in the world and Tim you need to try the Terminator beer. Lisa they make their own wines too (edgefield vineyard in OR). You could also visit the original starbucks while in Seattle, its on the waterfront by the market I believe. The underground tour of the city is cool too. So when will you be rolling through Portland?? If my folks are in town when you roll through, they're up for taking you on the Columbia River for a cruise up the Gorge....its simply Gorgeous:-). Call me if you want to pursue this. We're leaving tonight for a long weekend at the beach. Enjoy the beautiful Pacific NW. I'm jealous

I'm not sure how you're driving, but if you can make it to Wallawa Lake(Joseph Oregon) and do a hike, take the Tram, you'll have done one of my favorite things to do. Some weekends Whitman College's Theater Group will perform a play up there too, which is wonderful to see.

FYI: It is Whitman that is in Walla Walla.

Wally World has become quite the wine mecca. Main Street has a few tasting rooms that are fun. On Thursdays (I think) they have live music on Main, which is lots of fun. Saturdays in the summer they have a nice farmer's market. There are more restaurants now, so if you like to spend money on fine dining, you can do that in WW.

On your way to Seattle you'll pass a few wineries--definitely go to l'ecole. Great table and Cab's.

Seattle, you MUST go to the Wild Ginger. Absolutely my favorite restaurant in Seattle. To start your food adventure, have a ginger martini--served with a stick of fresh ginger.

Hi- Kelly's friend Denise here. As you travel up from Walla Walla make sure you stop in the Yakima Valley at the Wineries along the way, also it is Cherry season there. the best Sweet corn you will ever eat is from the Yakima Valley. Great place to eat Mexican food in Zillah at the El Ranchito
You will hit I-90 again at Ellensburg. Be sure to stop in Roslyn at the bar they used to film Northren Exposure. Then you will have to head north toward Leavenworth- Great Bavarian Village. Good place for rafting and hay rides and hiking and eating(bakeries especially)

Hey guys.... Enjoying following you on your crusade around the country. This link might help with the expense of gas prices... It's a hack into Google Maps that shows you how to find the cheapest gas in a designated area.
