Driving to Chicagoland

We got to Chicagoland about 3:00 on Friday. Traffic through Indiana was a breeze, the sun was shining, and we were having a good day. The scenery of the mid-west is picturesque Americana - red barns, high silos, wide rolling fields, big white houses with large porches. Where do these people shop? How do they get their road rage out?

I love driving, can I tell you that? I love the open road, the tunes on the radio, the feel of the wheel, and the total control of the moment. So you can see the trouble I ran into when we entered the Chicago Skyway and we were crawling along at about negative 3 miles an hour. Garmin said we were about 8 miles from K&E, and we were right at the State Street exit. I know State Street runs right up the middle of the city, not too many blocks from the office. Zip, off we go. We made it a few miles before running into ... rush hour on Friday in the city center during the Blues Fest. Needless to say, the silent tension in the car was rising. I kept my eye on the clock, hoping like Jack Bauer watching a centox gas canister that I could make it to at least stop in and say hello.

By the time we found the Aon building and a place to park, it was too late to pop in. Lisa and I both were in the early stages of "uromisotosis" and, even as she threatened me with bodily harm, I rescued her. Crisis averted, happy campers, and off we were to Matt's house, a mere 15 miles or so away in Skokie. Of course, we were in the middle of downtown Chicago, on Friday at rush hour during the blues fest. -- Lisa, put the knife down!
